North American Summer School in Logic, Language and Information

OVERVIEW

NASSLLI is a week-long summer school aimed at students and researchers in areas at the interface of linguistics, logic, and computation, broadly conceived, and on related fields It features courses taught by leading researchers who like teaching in interdisciplinary settings. Some of the course topics are introductory and are even suitable for advanced undergraduates, while others are advanced courses that bring students to areas of active research.

NASSLLI is traditionally run in mid- or late June. Occasionally conferences or workshops are held with NASSLLI. It contains presentation sessions for student papers, social events, and evening lectures aimed at wider academic audiences. Past schools had approximately 100 students and 12 classes.

Although informally linked to major academic professional organizations, and partly supported by them, NASSLLI is self-run. It is intended to be an affordable service to students. It is partially modeled on its sister from across the pond, ESSLLI, the European Summer School in Logic, Language, and Information. Both schools have proven to be exciting to students. Sometimes they are decisive parts of graduate education.

HOSTING A SCHOOL

Hosting a NASSLLI school can be a wonderful experience for an institution in many more students will participate. Also, it serves to showcase the institution's research efforts. At the same time, running a school takes effort and resources. This site contains general information about NASSLLI for those considering making a proposal to host a NASSLLI school in the future.

It is now possible to propose hosting NASSLLI for 2012 and future years. However, one should check with the steering committee.
